Still no opening day, and nothing on the ground yet
Winter Park Resort opened for skiing on October 31 last season, and this Saturday is October 31 again with no opening date announced for this one. The resort's hours page still gives the first day of skiing and riding for 26/27 as "as soon as possible." If you are watching for a date, keep watching.
Here is what that looks like this week. The Mountain Report has 0 of 24 lifts and 0 of 171 trails open, every one of them listed closed for the season, and all nine mountain activities closed too. The resort says select dining and shopping stay open until the ski season starts, which is the honest version of what is open up there.
The snow numbers agree. Base depth is 0 inches and the season total is 0 inches. Up at Berthoud Summit, the station that measures snowpack for this side of the pass reported no snow on the ground as of October 25, holding a tenth of an inch of water against a median of six tenths for the date. That same long record puts median snowpack onset at October 24, so the calendar has started and the mountain has not.
So this is a valley floor week, and a mild one. The forecast calls for highs near 56 Tuesday and near 58 Wednesday through Friday, a bit above the October average high of 54.9, with overnight lows in the low to mid 20s and a chance of rain and snow showers back on Saturday. Fraser's town events calendar lists nothing between now and November 9, so town is quiet too. Good week for a walk in the sun, the wood stove at night, and one thing worth filing away: when the lifts do spin, weekend chairs start at 8am this winter.
