Summer ยท Weekend itinerary
The Bike Weekend
One full day of lift-served downhill, one easy day of paved river miles, and a cabin with a hose, a washer, and a firepit to put the whole thing back together. Trestle is 10 to 12 minutes from the front door. The Fraser River Trail is right in town. You do not need a plan much more complicated than that.
๐ Friday: get the legs turning before dinner
4:30โ5:00 PM
๐ Bikes off the rack first
Check-in is after 4:00 PM with keypad entry, so you are not waiting on anyone. Bikes off the car and leaned somewhere sensible. Bags in. Kit into the entry, which in July is just a very convenient place to keep a pile of damp jerseys out of the living room.
5:00โ5:30 PM
๐ Safeway, once
Under a mile from the cabin, under 5 minutes, open 6 am to 11 pm. Two breakfasts, Friday dinner for the grill, and enough sandwich material to feed a bike park day. Buy more water than you think. Fraser sits around 8,600 to 8,800 feet.
5:45โ7:00 PM
๐ฒ Shakeout spin on the river
The Fraser River Trail is paved, easy, and runs 13.6 miles through the valley from Fraser toward Old Town Winter Park. Do not race it. Forty-five easy minutes to shake the drive out of your legs and let everyone's lungs meet the altitude before tomorrow does it for them. Or trade the spin for laps at the Fraser Bike Park, new in 2026 and 1.7 miles from the cabin: flow trails, jump lines, a pump track, and skills zones for every level.
7:15โ8:30 PM
๐ฅ Grill night and A-Frame setup
I would actually cook Friday. Grill going, music on, drinks poured, table set for six. Do not immediately go to dinner in town. You have two nights of restaurants ahead of you and exactly one first night at the cabin.
8:30โ10:00 PM
๐ง Wrench, then quit
- Chains lubed, tire pressure set for gravity, brakes checked.
- Pads, gloves, full-face helmets stacked by the door.
- Water bottles and a hydration pack filled and in the fridge.
- Tickets bought online. Trestle prices vary by day, so buying at the window is the expensive way to do it.
Then stop. Firepit. The A-frame ceiling and a fire beats anything you were going to watch.
๐ต Saturday: Trestle, all day
7:00โ8:00 AM
โ Eat properly
Pod coffee and a real breakfast at the table. Gravity riding is deceptively hard on you and it is always the person who skipped breakfast who gets sloppy on the third lap.
8:15โ8:45 AM
๐ Down valley
10 to 12 minutes to the Winter Park Resort base. If somebody in the group needs a rig, Christy Sports in Winter Park has been outfitting people since 1981 and rents bikes. Sort that before the first lift, not during.
9:00 AMโ12:00 PM
๐ Green laps, then earn the blues
Trestle Bike Park has over 40 miles of gravity-fed trail across 63 runs and 3 lifts, spread across a wide swath of terrain. Nine of those trails are green. Ride all of them first, even if you think you are above it. The dirt here has opinions and you want to learn them on something forgiving.
Never done this before? The park runs beginner downhill lessons for ages 7 and up, plus 90-minute Pro Tips sessions. One lesson saves you a season of bad habits.
12:00โ1:00 PM
๐ Lunch without leaving
Vertical Bistro sits in the Village at the resort base: burgers, small plates, and a global beer list, which is a nice option to have when half the group is done riding and half is not. Alternative: Lime, An American Cantina in Winter Park for hand-shaken margaritas, if you have decided the afternoon is optional.
1:00โ4:00 PM
๐ฏ The good half of the day
Eighteen blue trails and ten blacks, plus three double blacks if you have something to prove. The Banana Peel slopestyle line is worth standing next to for ten minutes even if you have no intention of riding it. Trestle runs daily in season, roughly mid June through Labor Day, with limited weekend riding into early October depending on weather.
4:15โ5:15 PM
๐บ One beer, standing up
Hideaway Park Brewery in Winter Park pours at 9,000 feet and is dog friendly, with house beers, seltzers, and non-alcoholic options. There is no kitchen, which is exactly why it is a one-beer stop and not a two-hour stop.
5:30โ7:00 PM
๐ฟ Hose, wash, collapse
Bikes rinsed and leaned in the shade. Kit straight into the washer/dryer so Sunday starts clean. Showers in shifts, everyone flat on the couch for forty minutes. This is where I would not schedule anything.
7:15โ9:00 PM
๐ฝ Saturday is the night you go out
The A-Frame Club in Winter Park runs a wood-fired grill and saloon with a French Alpine lean on locally sourced classics, and yes, we are aware of the naming coincidence. Alternative: Volario's, handmade pasta and pizza inside the Vasquez Creek Inn, which is the correct answer if the group's real goal tonight is carbohydrates.
9:00โ10:00 PM
๐ฅ Firepit
Summer nights up here still get cold enough for a fire, which is one of the better arguments for the place. Aspens, pines, plenty of room, and nobody else on it.
๐ Sunday: dirt without a chairlift, then home
7:30โ8:45 AM
๐ณ Slow one
Big breakfast at the table, coffee on the patio, last load of laundry running. Sunday should feel different from Saturday and it starts here.
8:45โ10:00 AM
๐ฆ Load the car, then check out
Checkout is before 10:00 AM. Bikes on the rack now, bags in, one sweep through the loft for chargers and one bottle that is always under the couch. The rest of the day is then genuinely free.
10:15 AMโ12:30 PM
๐ฒ Pedal your own bike for once
The Idlewild Trail System near Winter Park is 8.7 miles of intermediate singletrack, and after a day of lift laps it is a good reminder that climbing is a thing. Alternative for tired legs: an out-and-back on the Fraser River Trail, flat and paved, turn around whenever you feel like it.
12:45โ2:00 PM
๐ฎ Last lunch
Pepe Osaka's Fishtaco in Winter Park has been doing its Mexican and Asian mashup for over ten years, and fish tacos are the correct food to eat after two days of riding. Alternative: Hernando's Pizza Pub, going since 1967, walls under more than 35,000 decorated dollar bills.
2:00โ3:15 PM
๐ Wander, buy nothing
Cooper Creek Square in downtown Winter Park gathers nine restaurants and eleven shops in one outdoor block with free covered parking. Walk it off. Get ice cream. This is the part of Sunday where you stop being efficient.
3:15โ4:00 PM
โฝ Straps, gas, go
- Check every bike strap. Then check them again.
- Fill up at the Sinclair on Market Street in Fraser.
- Out by four so the drive home stays sane.
